Welcome Little Ones
Judi's Bird Feeders

This is the Mojo Monday Week 88 Sketch. Take time to check out their blog. They have lots of sketches that are fun to use.

I had so much fun with this sketch. I immediately saw my two bird feeders and from there it just came together.

I love birds and have two bird seed feeders and three hummingbird feeders. I use to just feed them from March through November but when I started seeing the hummingbirds in December and January, I decided I had better take care of my little friends.

Silhouettes of the Past:
Happy Birthday, Mom!

For Memorial Day both of my sisters posted a card for our mother. So I decided to follow. I couldn't miss the opportunity to post a comment about my mother. Check my sisters blogs for their cards. Sweetberry Designs and Mulberry Station.

I am using the AMYRS3 Sketch for the week.

I chose the SU Pocket Silhouette stamp because it reminds me of my mother's garden. She always had a beautiful yard and flower garden. I loved walking through her garden with her and watching the butterflies come to her flowers. She always worked so hard. She was up at 5 a.m. doing her work so that she could enjoy the rest of the day with her family whether is was working on another project or spending an afternoon shopping with us. I loved to shop with her because she always found the best deals.

The lace doily punch reminds me of all the sewing my mother used to do. She would stay up late at night making matching dresses for her three girls. It was so fun to wake up in the morning and have a new dress for Easter or Christmas.

I chose the polka dot paper and ribbon because Mom loved polka dots. I will always remember her in her darling black dress with white polka dots. She looked so beautiful in that dress. She was very fashion conscious and always wore the most adorable clothes.

Mom's birthday is June 2. If she were still living, she would be 87. This card is a tribute to her for all that she did for our family. We love and miss you, Mom.

Thank you, Mom, for all the beautiful silhouettes of the past.

My Nutrimill Wheat Grinder

In January I decided to purchase a wheat grinder, as the one I have had for twenty years sounds like an engine taking off in my kitchen. So I did some research and purchased the Nutrimill from Ace Hardware in North Salt Lake, Utah. If you want to do your own research, go to:

I have made bread for years and have used many different recipes but I must say the following Whole Wheat Bread recipe from
The Ace Kitchen is the best I have every used. I use White Wheat instead of Winter Winter. White wheat makes a softer bread. The other ingredients that help to make this a soft but not heavy or dense bread is the Dough Enhancer and the Wheat Gluten and applesauce.

Ground Wheat in bowl before opening lid.

Ground Wheat for bread in large bowl.
Fine Pastry Flour is in the small cup.
Save and use this flour in your baking items.
Your family will not know you have used
whole wheat.

This is the stage when I add the salt.

Continue to add wheat flour.
Enough flour is added when the dough begins
to pull away from the bowl.
Add small amounts of flour when it looks like it is close
to pulling away from the bowl.
Too much flour will make your bread more dense.

Remember to store or save your pastry flour in a container.
This can be stored in the freezer for future use.
Or if you want, go ahead and use it in your bread.

This picture shows helpful tools in making your bread.
Always use light weight, light colored bread pans.
A dark pan will bake your bread darker.

Use a scale to weigh the amount of dough for your pans.
If the weight is the same, the baking time will be the same.

The oil dispenser is from Progressive. It is called Portion Pro.

I purchased it at The Ace Kitchen

Always use oil after the dough has been kneaded.
You do not want to add more flour.
The gluten will not be developed in the newly added flour.

This is what your bread will look like as it begins to rise.

Make your family happy by making some cinnamon rolls, pizza rolls, pizza or orange rolls.
Be creative.

Any Wheat Gluten flour can be used in your recipe. I like Bob's Red Mill products. Check out their website or check your grocery store. I know they are available at Smith or Fred Meyer which is owned by Kroger. Bob's Red Mill is in Milwaukie, Oregon. If you are ever near their store, stop by. You will not be disappointed.

Dough Enhancer is a little more difficult to locate.
I purchased this at the Ace Kitchen in North Salt Lake, Utah. Actually, you will not have any problem locating it in Utah.
This product comes from:
Kitchen Resource
Exclusive Brand Distributor
Salt Lake City, UT
801-383-1920

This item is not necessary in baking your bread. It takes the place of honey and is great for people who are watching their weight or are diabetic.

I also purchased this at the Ace Kitchen.
However, you can
Check this site to see if there is a store near you where you can purchase Xagave.

Here are the whole wheat cinnamon rolls ready to go into the oven.

Yummy Whole Wheat Bread
Hot out of the oven.....cooling

Glazed with a little butter....ready to take the first bite....
yummy all by itself or with jam or honey butter.

A perfect family treat or breakfast surprise. Go ahead and make some for your family for your dinner tonight.
It does take a little effort.
Plan to be at home for at least three hours....from first grind to hot out of the oven.
While the dough is rising, you can make a card or tag to accompany a loaf of bread
for your neighbor or friend.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

My Newest Favorite Soup Recipe

A few weeks ago I was craving soup. I had seen a new recipe in the February 23, 2009, Woman's World called the Extreme Diet Soup. The ingredients looked wonderful and the article said it was better than the Cabbage Soup that most of us are familiar with. I actually love cabbage and always enjoyed that recipe too. However, this recipe has no cabbage for those of you who don't like cabbage.

So here it is:

I have included step by step photos as I prepared this soup. Total preparation time is 40 minutes....exactly the time indicated on the instructions.
Make this recipe ahead for a special dinner.....When ready to serve, heat the amount you plan to eat and add the spinach at the very last minute. This will keep the spinach bright green and oh so yummy!!!!
This recipe not only has wonderful flavor but also has all the fat-blasting ingredients that will help you get a little slimmer!
Enjoy!!!!

Thinly Sliced Onions

Diced Chicken

Grated Carrots

Onions sauted in Olive Oil

Diced Jalapeno

Adding Chicken and Carrots

Adding Jalapeno, Garlic and Thyme.

Diced Tomatoes

Adding Black Bean and Tomatoes

Add Spinach just moments before serving!

I made this soup twice in a two week period.
It is very light but filling with incredible flavors.
Enjoy and let me know how you like it!
