Grandma's Sleep Over

What a fun weekend I had with my grand daughter. I always try to do something fun and different with her. At four I can already tell she has some spectacular creative genes!
Two months ago my older son, Derek, told me about Wilton Food Writers. So I was on the hunt for them. I couldn't find them in Tacoma but on my last trip to Utah I found the gold mine at Michael's! They offer Primary, Neon and I think pastels... Then I found the Christmas display and located the Christmas Green and Red pen. When I returned home, Michael's also had the Christmas display.

As you can see, she was quite occupied with the Food Writers. Yesterday she asked to decorate some cookies for Derek's birthday present!
If you have any fun creative ideas to do with children, I would love to have you leave me a comment and share your ideas! This is a monthly event with my grand daughter and future grand children so I can use lots of ideas! Just trying to create memories and traditions with them!

Sweet Sketch 26 and Double Take 26
Sweet Sketch Wednesday

Wow, December is already here! It's hard to believe that it is almost Christmas again! It is my favorite time of year but for some reason my time seems to get busier every year. Just wish I could slow time down a bit!

Our little part of the country has made national news the past few days. My heart is heavy for the families of the four police officers who were shot and killed on Sunday morning just 12 minutes from my home. It will be a very difficult Christmas for their families and loved ones.

This week at Sweet Sketch Wednesday, our sponsor is Whimsie Doodle. Melyssa has wonderful images on her site. Take a few minutes and check out her designs here. If you play along this week at SSW and follow Sweet Sketch 26 or Double Take 26, you will have a chance to become the Winner of the Week and win two digi images from Whimsie Doodle. So get your design juices flowing and play along!

This week we have a Double Take along with Sweet Sketch 26. You can use either sketch to create your card.

I had so much fun working with these fabulous Whimsie Doodle designs. Hope you enjoy both of my cards. Have a great week working on your Christmas preparations. Just finished decorating my house....loving the festive feel!

Turkey Thanks
Sweet Sketch 25
Sweet Sketch Wednesday

Well, it's the day before Thanksgiving. I am busy making rolls and apple pie for our family crowd tomorrow. I will also be preparing the turkey and all the fixin's. I am just recovering from a little surgery I had last weekend to remove a 5 mm kidney stone. I am thankful to have that over with and on my way to a normal life again. Apparently only 20 percent of women develop kidney stones and only 2 percent of kidney stone patients need surgery to remove the kidney stone. I was fortunate enough to fit into both categories! I kept saying that I wanted to check the OPT OUT box for surgery and for passing the stone. Well, enough of that. At least it wasn't life threatening....just very uncomfortable!

So I am thankful for life, good health and my family. Wish all of our family could be here this week to celebrate Thanksgiving but my daughter and husband are in Okinawa and our youngest son is serving a mission in Texas. So it will be a little quiet without them.
This week my card is made for SSW, of course...as I hardly have time to make cards for anyone else other than my sister, Arlana. This week Arlana's sponsor is Inktegrity. Joni has such wonderful sketches. I just loved this little turkey when I saw him and I think he turned out quite cute with his little colored feathers! The rest the SSW Design Team has also used images from Inktegrity...so take a few moments to check out their cards on SSW. Then take some time to create your own card using Sweet Sketch 25 and any image you have and play along at SSW. You may become the lucky Winner of the Week and receive some fun digi images from Joni's store. Why not take a chance?

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving all your comments! Happy Thanksgiving!

Last Leaf
Sweet Sketch Wednesday
Sweet Sketch 23

It's Wednesday and it's Sweet Sketch Wednesday. Time to enjoy a new sketch from Arlana and to see what her Design Team has created for this week. Be sure to check their cards out at SSW and get some inspiration for your new card this week. Hope you will take the time to play along. We always love to have new players. For the next month and half we will be having a sponsor each week. You will not want to miss out on the fun and prizes.

This week I am visiting Arlana. We are anxious to have Nancy join us later this evening. We haven't had much time yet to create as we are working on many aspects of the blog. But I have enjoyed seeing Arlana's cards that she has made since I was last here in August and I am in awe!!! I definitely know now that if we could all see each others cards we would be amazed at their beauty. I always love the cards on the blog but there is something to be said about holding it in your hand and seeing it face to face!!! I am sure many of you have experienced what I am saying.

I love the seasons of the year but I am definitely a Spring/Summer person. I love the warmth and sunshine. I love the fall colors but there is a little sadness when I see the last leaf fall from the trees. For the past 6 years I have been caring for my father and each year in October and November I have raked 100 bags of leaves from his front yard. ..Too many leaves...in the Northwest we rake and blow fir needles instead.

Supplies:

Stamps: Recollections, SU Autumn Days

Paper: Debbie Mum Harvest and Holiday, DCWV Mat Stacks Earth and Fall Combo Stack 2

Ink: SU Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Ruby Red, Chocolate Chip

What's for Dinner tonight?

With Parmesan Cheese
I just made my favorite soup that I discovered last spring in the February 23, 2009 Women's World Magazine. I love the freshness of this soup with the fresh tomatoes, carrots, spinach, garlic and jalapeno...which gives just a hint of spice...But this soup is not spicy hot!!!
Without Parmesan Cheese
I make the soup as the recipes instructs except I put the spinach in the hot bowls of soup that I am serving at the moment. Save the rest of the soup for another day....or for lunch and just add the spinach to your individual hot soup bowls each time you serve it. Stir the spinach a few times and it slightly cooks or wilts. Add as much spinach as you like. I like alot. The spinach is so fresh and bright green! If you do as the recipe says, and put all the spinach in the pan and bring it to a boil and then happen to have it sit for five or ten minutes, the spinach turns a ickky green!
Click here to check out my tutorial on how to make this soup.
Tonight we had this soup with French dip Roast Beef Sandwiches....made with Pillsbury Crusty French Loaf in the refrigerator section of the grocery store where the Grands and Cresent rolls are displayed. I make my dip from instant bouillon...a quick a easy trick! If you don't want sandwiches with your soup, this French bread is so delicious to eat straight from the oven. Before baking, I cut slits on the top of the loaf with a knife and sprinkle generously with Garlic Salt. The first few times I used the Pillsbury French Loaf my family thought it was my own recipe...it is that good without the mess in the kitchen! I also use it in the summer time to make cold turkey and roast beef sandwiches. Wow, what an advertisement for Pillsbury! I should be working for them! I should have taken a picture of the bread too! Maybe next time!
Anyway, I hope you will try this soup and let me know how you like it.
